Southern Grampians Shire Council will extend the due date for the first instalment of the 2023/24 rate payment by two weeks.
At last night’s council meeting it was passed that the due date for the first instalment payment would be extended from Monday 2 October 2023 to Friday 13 October 2023.
This extended date would also apply to property owners who wish to pay their annual rate in full to receive a two per cent discount.
CEO Tony Doyle said this year council experienced some processing delays and therefore rates notices would be issued later than usual.
“Councils are required to send an annual notice at least 14 days before the due date of the first payment,” explained Mr Doyle.
“And if rates are being paid by instalments, reminder notices must also be sent 14 days before the due dates of the second, third and fourth instalments.
“Generally, our Council has been in the practice of sending rates notices out either late in the month before, or within the first few days of the month in which the rates/instalment is due despite only being required to give 14 days’ notice.”
